Common Golf Injuries and Prevention Tips:

1. Elbow Pain (Golfer’s Elbow)

Symptoms: Pain on the medial side of the elbow.
Cause: Missing the sweet spot, causing the club face to twist.
Correction: Instead of gripping the club harder, focus on hitting the sweet spot. Cam recommends seeking professional help to correct your swing mechanics.

2. Back Pain

Symptoms: Pain in the lower back.
Cause: Improper swing mechanics, such as trying to keep the head down too much.
Correction: Allow your eyes to follow the ball, which helps with proper rotation and reduces stress on the lower back.

3. Shoulder Pain

Symptoms: Discomfort in the shoulder during or after a swing.
Cause: Hitting behind the golf ball and improper rotation.
Correction: Move your weight forward and rotate through the shot. Avoid lifting your arms and shoulders at impact.

Tips for Aspiring Golfers Getting Started:

Avoid relying solely on YouTube for tips. Instead, find a local instructor who can provide personalized guidance and help you build good habits from the start.

Equipment Recommendations:

Beginners don’t need top-of-the-line equipment. A functional set of clubs, including a driver, some irons, a few wedges, and a putter, is sufficient. Upgrade as your skills improve.

Swing Faults:

A common mistake is trying to keep the head down, which inhibits rotation and leads to poor performance and back pain. Instead, follow the ball with your eyes and allow natural rotation.

Warm-Up Routine for Golfers

Even if you can't hit the range before a round, it's essential to warm up:

Dynamic Movements: Incorporate lunges with rotation, hip mobility exercises, and other dynamic stretches.

Avoid Static Stretching: Focus on movements that mimic your golf swing to prepare your body for the game.

Returning to Golf After a Season Off

If you’ve taken a hiatus from golf:

Ease Back In: Don’t start with 100 driver swings. Begin with short game practice, such as chipping and pitching around the green.

Focus on Form: Proper form is crucial to prevent injuries and improve performance.
