Is It Safe to Have Your Neck Adjusted?

One of the most common questions I get is: "Is it safe to have your neck adjusted?" I’m Dr. Brittany, your Bay City chiropractor at Lake Effect Chiropractic, and I’d like to clear up some concerns and explain how adjustments work.

What Do Chiropractic Adjustments Do?

Adjustments restore movement to your joints. Think of it as adding WD-40 to help improve your range of motion. Before any adjustment, I always run a few tests to see if it’s needed and ensure it’s safe for you. The goal is to help your joints move properly, so no single joint bears too much strain.

If a joint in your neck is restricted and not moving well, I’ll perform a gentle stretch and quick impulse to restore its motion. This helps each joint function as it should, allowing for full range of movement.

Are Chiropractic Adjustments Safe?

Yes! Adjustments are done when there’s a restriction in motion, and they focus on restoring the natural movement of your joints. Some worry about overstretching tissues, but adjustments are controlled and targeted to keep your neck moving safely. If your joints have full range of motion, there’s no need for an adjustment. However, if there’s restriction, that’s when I’ll step in with a quick, effective adjustment.
